Diet & Nutrition

Nutrition is important and at SumoSalad we’re right into making our food the very best it can be. That’s why we work with Dietitian Georgina Moore on making sure our food is nutritionally balanced and the ingredients list covers all sensitivities and allergens.

About Georgina Moore, SumoSalad’s Dietitian

Early in her career Georgie decided that food can be a medicine so she undertook a degree at Sydney University and joined the Dietitian’s Association of Australia. Today Georgie runs her own private practice helping patients suffering from lifestyle related diseases (diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and weight problems). She sees first-hand the consequences of an unhealthy diet.

Georgie lives by the 25-25-50 rule. She educates her patients that plates at both lunch and dinner should consist of 25% lean protein, 25% low GI carbs and the other 50% should be veggies or salad.

At SumoSalad, Georgie analyses our recipes and helps us work out the healthiest and tastiest combination of fresh ingredients.

97% Fat Free

97% Fat Free

Our products that are 97% FAT FREE contain less than 3g of saturated fat if it’s a meal or less than 1 gram of saturated fat if it’s a snack item.

Our Dietitian, Georgie Moore says that "97% fat free means that most of the energy in the menu item is made up of protein or carbs. As most of the menu items at SumoSalad are plant based, 97% fat free also means that the item most likely contains less overall energy (kilojoules) as well, than a full fat alternative".

Low GI

Low GI

Our products that are Low GI (Glycaemic Index) contain predominately Low GI ingredients.

Our Dietitian, Georgie Moore says that "the Glycaemic Index is a ranking out of 100 that indicates how quickly or how slowly the carbohydrates in the food are broken down and then absorbed. The longer the breakdown and absorption of carbs takes, the longer we have that feeling of being full (satiety), the more stable our blood sugar levels and as such the longer we feel energised from the food we eat. Low GI foods are a great choice for lunch to help avoid that afternoon slump (aka "3:30-iitis")".

Low Kilojoule

Low Kilojoule

Our products that are Low KJ (Kilojoule) contain no more than 1,600kJ if it’s a meal or no more than 600kJ if it’s a snack item.

Our Dietitian, Georgie Moore says that "by choosing Low kJ foods, we are filling that hole in our stomach without consuming significant amounts of energy. For those of us who have a significant hunger by lunch time, a Low kJ option means we can eat heaps without having to worry about our waist line expanding as a result".

Low Carbs

Low Carbs

Our products are Low Carbs because a maximum of 30% of the energy (kJ) comes from Carbohydrates.

Our Dietitian, Georgie Moore says "the type of carbohydrate and also the volume that you eat can have a massive impact on your blood sugar level. By keeping a limit on the amount you eat over the day, you can help reduce significant fluctuations in your blood sugar levels, which will decrease the energy highs & lows you can experience throughout the day if eating high GI food or by eating a lot of carbs".
